This step-by-step tutorial will guide you through the process of creating a new prompt template using the Promptmatic prompt editor. This editor offers a modern editor to prepare a prompt template super fast.
Follow these steps to create a template that fits your specific needs.
Step 1: Access Promptmatic
Open Google Chrome and click on the Promptmatic extension icon in your browser's toolbar. This will launch ChatGPT and Promptmatic together.
Step 2: Launch prompt editor
Inside your Promptmatic dashboard, look for the “Create a prompt template” button on the top right corner. Click this button to launch your prompt editor.
Step 3: Select the ChatGPT Model
The first field is selecting your ChatGPT model. You can select ChatGPT 4.0 and 3.5 or both along with any custom GPT. This selection tailors your prompts to the specific capabilities and nuances of the chosen model.
Step 4: Declaring or adding Variables
The first feature of the prompt editor toolbar is a button to declare variables. Variables help you create re-usable prompt templates. Variables are editable dynamic parts of your prompt template. While using the prompt template you will replace variables with specific values.
For example, Please prepare a SEO content strategy for the keyword {KEYWORD}. In this prompt the part {KEYWORD} is a variable and you can add any valid value while using this in ChatGPT conversations.
You can use as many variables as you need your prompt template.
Step 5: Assign a Role
ChatGPT outputs best when you assign a specific role. For example, if you are attempting to complete an accounting related task, you can assign a role as an accountant. We have more than 160 prebuilt roles in our editor. You can also create and add any custom roles you want.
Click the “Role” button on the toolbar to add your role. Adding roles is not mandatory but it’s here to help you write high quality prompt templates super fast.
Step 6: Add or write Instructions

Click the “Instruction” button on the toolbar to add your instructions. It is not mandatory but it’s here to help you write high quality prompt templates super fast.
Step 7: Choose Writing Style
The Style menu on the toolbar helps you choose from a list of more than 60 writing styles or create and add your custom styles. Select a preset style that matches the nature of your prompt. If none of the presets fit, you may choose to create a custom style by selecting “Add a custom style” and detailing the characteristics you desire.
Step 8: Choose Writing Tone
Select a preset tone from our list of 60 tones that matches the nature of your prompt. If none of the presets fit, you may choose to create a custom tone by selecting “Add a custom tone” and detailing the characteristics you desire.
Step 9: Define Your Task
Now that you have your context, role and style ready, it is time to define the task for ChatGPT to complete. Ask exactly what you want ChatGPT to produce and your prompt template is ready to use.
Step 10: Save the Template
Give your template a name and select a folder to organize your prompt templates according to their usage. Click the “Create prompt template” button and you are all set.
You can access the prompt template from your My prompts section and edit, update or delete whenever you want. This prompt template is your private prompt template and not shared anywhere.
